Penny is a sweet, mellow 5-year-old Beagle who has perfected the art of doing absolutely nothing — and she does it beautifully. She's the kind of dog who finds the softest spot on the couch, curls up into a perfect little donut, and sighs contentedly like she's lived there her whole life. If you're looking for a hiking partner, Penny is not your girl. If you're looking for the world's best nap companion, she's your soulmate.
Despite her low-key nature, Penny does enjoy short, leisurely walks around the block. She'll sniff every mailbox post and fire hydrant with the dedication of a seasoned detective, but she's perfectly happy to head back inside after 15 minutes. She knows basic commands, walks nicely on a leash, and has never met a lap she didn't want to sit in.
Penny would do well in just about any home — apartment, house, with kids, without kids, with other pets, as a solo dog. She's incredibly adaptable and easygoing. Her only real preference is a couch, and ideally a human willing to share it.
Penny was found as a stray wandering along County Road 4 in March 2026 by a concerned motorist. She was thin, had no collar, and no microchip. Despite being on her own, she walked right up to the person who found her, tail wagging, and hopped into their car without hesitation.
She was brought to WCAHS where she was given a full veterinary workup, spayed, vaccinated, and placed into foster care. No one ever came to claim her. Based on her demeanor and manners, it's clear someone once loved her — she's house-trained, gentle with handling, and knows how to sit and shake. Whatever her story was before, she's ready for her next chapter.
Spayed, up to date on all vaccinations including rabies and bordetella
Microchipped
Heartworm negative, on monthly preventative
Slightly overweight: Currently 25 lbs, ideal weight is around 22 lbs. She's on a vet-approved diet plan and has already lost 2 lbs in foster care. Her adopter will receive the feeding schedule and recommended food brand.
Tom & Jan, fostering since March 2026
"Penny is genuinely the easiest dog we've ever fostered. She sleeps about 18 hours a day, enjoys a short walk in the morning, and then it's back to the couch. She's basically a cat in a dog's body."
"The only time she barks is when the mailman comes, and even then it's more of a half-hearted 'boof' like she feels obligated. She gives up after two barks and goes back to sleep."
"She has these big soulful beagle eyes that could convince you to share your dinner. Don't fall for it — she's on a diet. But wow, she's persuasive."
